Mamie Gregory was born in 1867 and lived at Indian Gardens, near Darwin.  In the beginning she made elegant storage vessels and used the step design, but after her move into the mining town of Old Coso, she started making small gift baskets.  She was later named "Madame Butterfly" for her butterfly designed baskets.  She died in 1947.
